Travelling to Iraq?

If you are travelling to Iraq for business or leisure you will require a visa to enter. Please note that the granting of any Iraqi Visa is dependent upon consular discretion.

Passport required

Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the period of intended stay.

Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the period of intended stay when arriving at Basra (BSR).

Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival when arriving at Erbil (EBL) or Sulaymaniyah (ISU).  

Admission and Transit Restrictions:

Passengers with a handwritten passport are not allowed to enter.

Visa required

Except for Passengers with a signed and stamped letter issued by the Ministry of Interior of Iraq if arriving at Baghdad (BGW), Basra (BSR) or Najaf (NJF) .

Visa required, except for Passengers with a signed and stamped letter issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government if arriving at Erbil (EBL) and Sulaymaniyah (ISU) 

Visa required, except for Passengers arriving at Baghdad (BGW), Basra (BSR) or Najaf (NJF) whose passport states Iraq as place of birth. They must have an original and official Iraqi document with the same name as on the passport.

Visa required, except for Passengers married to a national of Iraq arriving at Najaf (NJF) for a maximum stay of 3 months. They must have an original Iraqi marriage certificate or an approved marriage certificate issued by an Iraqi embassy.

Visa required, except for Business managers, investors, international experts, oil company managers or representatives traveling on business can obtain a visa on arrival at Basra (BSR) if holding return/onward tickets and passports valid at least 6 months from date of arrival .

Visa required, except for Passengers younger than 18 years can obtain a visa on arrival at Baghdad (BGW) or Basra (BSR) airports. They must travel with their parents and at least one of the parents must hold an Iraqi passport.

Visa required, except for Passengers with proof of being of Iraqi origin or having Iraqi parents can obtain a visa on arrival.

Warning:

Holders of passports containing an Israeli stamp or visa will be refused entry in Iraq. This restriction does not apply at Erbil (EBL).

Passports and/or passport replacing documents of all visitors traveling to Baghdad (BGW) or Basra (BSR) must contain at least 2 unused visa pages

Passports and/or passport replacing documents of all visitors traveling to Najaf (NJF) must contain at least 3 unused visa pages.

Nationals of Kenya, residing in Kenya, arriving at Erbil (EBL) and Sulaymaniyah (ISU) are subject to screening and medical checks.

Passengers who have visited Congo (Dem. Rep.), Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone within 3 months prior to arrival in Iraq are subject to screening and health check. Exempt are holders of diplomatic passports.

Vaccination

Vaccination against yellow fever required if arriving within 6 days after leaving or transiting countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.
